"Exposed: How I Sell Algo Dreams—and What Buyers Need to Know."
"The algo trading world glitters with promises and prop firm payouts. As a 30-year market vet turned salesman, I sell that dream daily. These confessions strip it bare: the hype, the 90% failure rates, and how to actually win."
If you're reading this book, your story probably falls into one of two buckets. Maybe you've been around markets long enough to know the slogans are fake, you've tried to out-trade your own emotions, and you've bounced between systems, prop firms, and 80% off coupon codes hoping the next thing finally sticks. Or maybe you're brand new, looking for a way to replace a job income with something more flexible, picturing what it would feel like to walk away from the commute, the boss, and the constant schedule tug-of-war—if you could just get a consistent monthly number out of trading. In both cases, you're not confused about what you want; you're just tired of feeling like every "solution" promises freedom while quietly setting you up for another round of disappointment.
My name is Christian Sumner. I've spent decades on both sides of the screen—trading my own money, managing portfolios, and sitting on Zoom calls with people trying to decide if one more algo, one more evaluation, or one more funded account is actually the answer. I've talked to traders who sound a lot like you: some are battle-scarred veterans with a trail of systems and resets behind them, others are total beginners with a good job and a simple dream of replacing that paycheck with something less chained to a clock, but all of them are carrying the same quiet question: "Why doesn't any of this feel like it's actually getting me there?"
By the time you and I usually talk, you've already been through a few versions of the same story, no matter which bucket you started in. If you're the experienced one, you've seen algos that looked perfect on a curve and fell apart in live markets, passed evaluations and then watched funded accounts blow up faster than you built them, chased discounts and flash sales while telling yourself, "It's not that much, I'll make it back," and then had to explain to a spouse, a partner, or just yourself why the latest "upgrade" or "lifetime deal" didn't move the needle. If you're newer, you've likely binged YouTube, signed up for a "beginner friendly" course or evaluation, tried to fast-forward into replacing your income, and then discovered that the stress, the rules, and the account swings feel nothing like the clean lines in the marketing video.
The people I wrote this book for come from both of those starting points, but they share the same core desire. They're Legacy Builders—moms, dads, grandparents, business owners, and professionals who want a quiet, durable way to buy back time, protect the people they care about, and stop money from being a constant source of anxiety. Some are trying to rescue years of trial and error; others are trying to skip the worst of the mistakes they see everyone else making. They're willing to work, they're willing to be patient, but they're done gambling on marketing promises that never talk honestly about risk, drawdowns, or the emotional grind of real trading.
Across thousands of conversations with both groups, I kept seeing the same avoidable patterns: veterans mistaking aggressive marketing for edge and treating prop firms like scratch-off tickets instead of structured tools; newer traders trying to leap straight to "full time income" without a risk framework, a realistic timeline, or any real tolerance for the swings they're signing up for. Both groups were handing control to automation they didn't truly understand. When the setups inevitably cracked, they blamed themselves—"Maybe I'm just not cut out for this"—instead of recognizing that no one had ever laid out the rules of this game in plain language or shown them how to build something that fits their actual life stage.
This book is my attempt to change that, whether you're trying to fix damage or avoid it. Inside, you'll see real scenarios pulled from those conversations, simple math instead of magic, and concrete questions you can ask about any algo, funding offer, or "opportunity" before you put more capital or emotional energy on the line. We'll talk about when prop firms and automation can be powerful pillars in a long-term plan, when they should only be a small supporting piece while you keep a regular paycheck, and when the smartest move—for a veteran or a newbie—is to step back entirely and regroup.
If you've ever caught yourself thinking, "If I could just get the emotions out and systematize this, I'd finally be free," these pages are here to show you what that freedom actually costs—and what it can realistically buy you over the next five to ten years, from either starting point. My goal is not to talk you into working with me or anyone else. My goal is that by the time you finish this book, you'll see exactly where you've been getting tripped up, recognize which "bucket" you're really in right now, and be able to choose your next move with clear eyes, a calmer nervous system, and a plan that finally matches the life you're trying to build.
